Your Professional/Academic Profile
Daniel Adebowale Bello
Poet
Daniel Adebowale Bello was born on the 27th December 1979 in the Lion Mountain of Freetown, Sierra Leone in Western Africa to a Nigerian father and a Sierra Leonean mother. He attended the Saint Edwards Primary School and Prince of Wales Secondary School and later proceeded to Fourah Bay College where he studied Business Administration.
During the civil war in Sierra Leone in the early and late 90’s, he moved to Lagos, Nigeria with his mother and two siblings to the United High Commission for Refugees Camp in Oru Village, Ogun State in western Nigeria. He also attended Oxford College in Nigeria where he gained a B.Com in Marketing & Computer Skills. He later moved to Lagos State where he worked for a pharmaceutical company called Chemiron International Limited, an affiliate of the Henley Group of Companies for three years.
Poetry is a gift given to him by the divine and aided him in writing his autobiography in the form of poetry. Living in Nigeria in his formative years afforded him exposure to different genres of music, arts and poetic works of different cultures in the largest and most populous black nation in the world. His love for poetry, music, the countryside, history, wine, traveling, adventure, drama, antiques and wildlife combine to influence his poetry writing. His poems have featured in several art festivals, poetry readings, youth’s gathering and hip-hop shows in Nigeria.
In April 2004, his mother passed away and that was the turning point in his life and career. After a year of soul searching and deliberation he decided to move to Johannesburg, South Africa to start a new life in promoting his works of poetry. In his approach to art, he believes in using ‘’nature, life’s encounters and cultural artifacts’’ as a tool for raising ones artistic consciousness, a method he uses both as an educational strategy and as a means to create an awareness of social problems via his poems.
His poetry verges into the expressionistic. His poems and words truly come alive when spoken. He is presently working on publishing his first book, which is an anthology of his poems entitled “Colours of My Life”.
His inspiration and passion comes from life’s experiences, the daily struggle of humanity, love and family. Nature has been his greatest inspiration and he yearns to see people free in their minds to explore life with possibilities beyond the borders of their creed, clan and cultures. He hopes to awaken the artistic instinct and consciousness of every facet of society transcending beyond race and color. His desire is to see a new breed of people without greed in our society, and poetry is the medium he uses to convey that message to all.

I am also looking forward to get a publisher to publish my book....

There is nothing worse than reaching the end of your life and wondering what could have happened, or should have happened, but somehow did not happen. Thats the tradegy that some of us are facing and dealing with in our daily lives and this is the reality of it all...'You can only correct what you are willing to confront'

The Epistle of You & Me - QUESTIONS (Part 2)

Posted on February 18, 2009 at 3:07 0 Comments

The wounds of my best friends have pierced my soul and I am filled with naked emotions. I ponder under the stars as this thoughts keeps vamping in my head for attention..'' We often strongly condemn others for the very thing we are most guilty of ourselves''....That’s the title deed of hypocrisy which we are all culprits in some way or the other...

Fortunately enough I have realized that anytime we have no goals, it is easy for others to impose on us their ideas of who we are and are… Continue
